All of my graphic design clients should read this!
I subscribe to an email newsletter from Freelance Folder. They send me articles regularly from their various contributors. Most of the articles have to do with the freelance life, getting more clients, diversifying one’s freelance business and the like, but yesterday they sent out an article entitled “Typography Essentials — A Getting Started Guide.” The author talks about font basics, types and styles of fonts, when it’s best to use serif and sans serif fonts, type alignment, and when it’s best to use certain types of alignment. This is a great article to pull out when I say that a paragraph ought to be left-justified and the client insists that it be justified! However, I have to admit, some of my clients have a great eye, and yes, justification does work best in some places where the norm would say it doesn’t.
Read the article and bookmark it for future use!
